Providing Social Skills Summer Camp & Community Based Services for Children and Young Adults
Summer Camp
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Social Skills Summer Camp is a six to eight week program that provides opportunities for children/adults with Autism (ages 5 to 21) to engage in fun social activities with typical children. These activities focus on social skills, reciprocal conversations, pragmatics of language, self-regulation, expressing feelings, and cooperative play. This unique camp experience will also provide an educational and academic model that translates into successful experiences for the child in their home, school, and within their community.
Here at F.R.I.E.N.D.S., quality is more important than quantity. Therefore, a maximum of 90 children (approximately 80 children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and approximately 10 typical children) are accepted into our Savannah program. Prior to acceptance, each child will undergo intensive screening by our staff to ensure that each child can have a successful and rewarding camp experience. All enrollment applications, non-refundable registration fees, and tuition payments are due no later than May 1st of each year. Carefully read the link "Instructions on How to Save the Summer Camp Enrollment Application" before submitting your application electronically. Emailed applications that are saved incorrectly will be blank.
Tuition assistance for the Savannah location is available through Easter Seals, B&B Services, Gateway, and other local organizations. Further information regarding tuition assistance, tuition cost, payment plans, policies and procedures are available in the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Enrollment Application and on our Funding Sources Tab. Art
Art activities are specifically selected to encourage creativity, peer cooperation, and hand-eye coordination. Various mediums, such as paint, clay, and craft materials, are utilized with each art project. Art completed by our talented students are displayed throughout the classrooms and hallways in our facilities.
Physical Activiites
Classroom Activities
Activities and experiments are chosen to correspond with each themed week. These types of activities include sensory stimulation, group cooperation/teamwork, and cooking demonstrations which involve real-world applications (e.g. social skills: manners, sharing, and practicing appropriate behaviors).
Field Trips
Our fun physical activities promote cooperation, turn taking, and boost social and gross motor skills. These types of activities include various field day related events such as relay races, balance challenges, and other fitness activities.
Approximately 2-4 field trips will take place during each summer camp session. FRIENDS provides field trip transportation via a 15 passenger van. Each class will individually enjoy one field trip each summer.
